Step by step

Dental veneers in London

01

How the treatment goes

Veneer treatment starts with photographs and a scan, on which the new shape is designed digitally. The design becomes a mock-up: a temporary material placed directly on your teeth, so you see the smile in a mirror before any preparation. Only after you agree with the shape does the dentist remove 0.3 to 0.7 mm of enamel from the front of the tooth. Ceramic veneers are then bonded one by one.

02

Visits and timing

Ceramic veneers take 2 or 3 visits over 1 to 2 weeks: design and mock-up first, then preparation and scan, then try-in and bonding. The ceramic veneers are made in the Smalț ceramics lab in Bucharest, which works for all three clinics. Composite veneers are shaped directly on the tooth, in a visit of 1 to 2 hours for 2 to 4 teeth.

03

Who they suit

Dental veneers suit adults with front teeth that are stained, chipped, worn or slightly spaced. Decay and gum inflammation are treated first. Teeth grinding (bruxism) does not rule veneers out, but it calls for a night guard. No-prep veneers apply only to cases that meet the medical criteria, usually small or spaced teeth. When teeth are crowded, clear aligners often come before veneers.

04

Aftercare

Veneers are brushed like natural teeth, with a low-abrasion toothpaste, and flossed between. Biting nails, pens and fruit stones can chip the edge. You leave with a written record of the shade, material and bonding cement, so the margins can be checked at your yearly visit.

05

Ceramic or composite: the cost difference

A ceramic veneer costs £1,750 and a composite one £550. Ceramic keeps its colour and shine over time and is made in the Smalț lab in Bucharest. Composite is shaped directly on the tooth and can be repaired in the chair, but it stains more easily from coffee and tea. The written plan shows both options, with the number of teeth and the total price.

Frequently asked questions

How much do veneers cost in London at Smalț?

A ceramic veneer costs £1,750 per tooth, including the mock-up, scan, try-in and bonding. A composite veneer costs £550 per tooth. Six ceramic veneers come to £10,500.

How many visits do veneers take?

Ceramic veneers usually take 2 or 3 visits over 1 to 2 weeks, from design to bonding. Composite veneers take one visit. If decay or gum treatment is needed first, the written plan tells you how many extra visits to add.

Are no-prep veneers possible?

No-prep veneers apply only to cases that meet the medical criteria, usually small, worn or spaced teeth. On teeth of normal size, a veneer placed without preparation would be bulky and trap plaque. The mock-up shows in advance whether it is possible.

Ceramic or composite veneers: what is the difference?

Ceramic veneers are made in the Smalț ceramics lab in Bucharest and keep their colour over time. Composite veneers are shaped directly on the tooth in one visit and cost less, but they can stain and need periodic polishing.

Can veneers be whitened?

No. Ceramic veneers, crowns and fillings do not change colour with whitening. If you want your natural teeth lighter, whitening is done before the veneers and their shade is matched to it.
