Questions

Frequently asked questions

The questions below are the ones patients ask before the first visit: how much it costs, whether it hurts, how many visits or trips it takes, what happens if they are anxious. Each answer points to the treatment page, where you find the full price and the steps.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the first visit at Smalț?

The first visit is the diagnosis and costs £395. It includes the examination, a 3D CT scan (CBCT), photographs, an intraoral scan and a written plan, sent by email within 48 hours. No treatment is done on the day of the diagnosis.

Why is the first visit more than a consultation?

The Smalț diagnosis includes a 3D CT scan, because a treatment plan with a full price cannot be written without it. The scan shows the bone, roots and canals, and the price of an implant or root canal depends on what it shows.

Are the prices on the site final?

Each price on the Smalț list includes everything on its row. The exact price of your treatment appears in the written plan, with what it includes and what it does not, before the first step. What is not in the plan does not appear at the desk. Prices on this site are for the London clinic; Bucharest and Dubai have their own lists, in local currency.

Does dental treatment hurt?

Treatment at Smalț is done under local anaesthetic, after a numbing gel on the gum, so you feel pressure and vibration. After surgery, mild pain for 2 to 3 days is common and managed with the medicines the dentist recommends. Conscious sedation is available for strong anxiety.

What if I am afraid of the dentist?

Tell the dentist at the first visit. You agree on a pause signal, each step is explained before it is taken, and treatment can be split into shorter sessions. Sedation with nitrous oxide (laughing gas) costs £250 per session.

How much is a dental implant in London at Smalț?

A complete dental implant costs £3,950 and includes the titanium implant, abutment, ceramic crown and first-year check-ups. It takes 4 or 5 visits over 3 to 6 months.

How many days do veneers take?

Ceramic veneers take 2 or 3 visits over 1 to 2 weeks and cost £1,750 per tooth. Composite veneers take one visit and cost £550 per tooth. You see the new shape on a mock-up before any preparation.

Are clear aligners possible if I live abroad?

Yes, for most simple and moderate cases. Treatment starts with a trip of 2 to 3 days, then you send photographs and come back every 3 to 4 months. A simple case costs £3,450.

How many trips do I need?

It depends on the treatment. An implant needs 2 trips, full arch implants 2 trips, ceramic veneers or crowns 1 trip, and in-clinic whitening fits into a single day. The written plan states the number of trips and days.

What should I do in a dental emergency?

Severe pain, swelling or a knocked-out tooth are treated the same day. An emergency consultation costs £225. Swelling that makes breathing or swallowing harder is a medical emergency: call 112.

Where are the Smalț clinics?

Smalț has three clinics: London (Marylebone), for diagnosis, implants and restorations; Bucharest (Dorobanți), the main clinic, with the ceramics lab; and Dubai (DIFC), for diagnosis, implants and root canal treatment, with visits grouped by stage. You choose the clinic when you book.

Will my dentist at home understand the treatment?

Every patient leaves with an English treatment report, the CT scan and X-rays, and for implants the system, sizes and batch numbers. Your dentist at home can do the check-ups with them.
