How to check a dentist in Romania
Every dentist practising in Romania must be registered with the Romanian College of Dentists (Colegiul Medicilor Stomatologi din România, CMSR). The public register of dentists is on the CMSR website, cmsr.ro, and can be searched by name.
The register shows whether a dentist has the right to practise and which title they hold: dentist, specialist or senior specialist (medic primar), with the specialty. Titles such as "implantology specialist" or "cosmetic dentistry specialist" do not exist in the Romanian list of specialties, and the CMSR advertising guide does not allow them.
Frequently asked questions
What do specialist and medic primar mean in Romania?
A specialist has completed residency in a specialty, such as endodontics or orthodontics, confirmed by the Romanian Ministry of Health. A medic primar has passed a further exam after several years as a specialist. Both titles appear in the public CMSR register.
Is there an implantology specialist in Romania?
Implantology is not a specialty on the Romanian Ministry of Health list. Implants are placed by dentists specialised in dento-alveolar surgery or oral and maxillofacial surgery, or by dentists with complementary training. The exact specialty appears in the CMSR register.
How can I check a dentist's licence in Romania?
The public register of the Romanian College of Dentists, on cmsr.ro, shows each dentist's right to practise, title and specialty. It can be searched by name, and the page is in Romanian.
