Dental implants in London

A dental implant is a titanium root placed in the jawbone and topped with a ceramic crown. It replaces a missing tooth without touching the teeth next to it. At Smalț a complete implant costs £3,950, crown included. Treatment takes 4 or 5 visits to the Marylebone clinic, over 3 to 6 months.

Step by step

Dental implants in London

01

How the treatment goes

Implant treatment starts with the diagnosis: the 3D CT scan shows the height and width of the bone and where the nerve runs. The oral surgeon plans the exact implant position on it, and the written plan reaches you by email within 48 hours. Placing the implant takes 60 to 90 minutes under local anaesthetic. After healing, the area is scanned with the intraoral scanner and the ceramic crown is fitted on the abutment.

02

Visits and timing

An implant usually takes 4 or 5 visits over 3 to 6 months: the diagnosis, the implant placement, a check 7 to 10 days later, then the scan, try-in and fitting of the crown once the bone has healed. If you live outside London, you can send a recent panoramic X-ray in advance for a first estimate, but the final plan is made only after the CT scan at the clinic.

03

Who it suits

A dental implant suits adults with one or more missing teeth and enough bone, or bone that can be rebuilt with a graft. Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and some osteoporosis medicines raise the risk that the implant does not integrate, so they are discussed at the diagnosis. Placing an implant on the same day as the extraction applies only to cases that meet the medical criteria. When an implant is not the right choice, the written plan includes the alternative: a bridge or a denture.

04

Aftercare

Every patient leaves with a written implant file: the CT scan, the implant system, size and batch number, and the dates of each stage. Any dentist can do routine check-ups with it and order compatible parts if they are ever needed. The implant is cleaned like a natural tooth, with brushing twice a day and interdental brushes, plus a professional cleaning every 6 months.

05

What the £3,950 covers

The £3,950 price is for the finished tooth: the titanium implant, the abutment, the ceramic crown and the first-year check-ups. The CT diagnosis costs £395 once, however many implants follow. A bone graft or sinus lift appears in the written plan, with its own price, only if the scan shows it is needed. You know every cost before the first step.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a dental implant cost in London at Smalț?

A complete dental implant costs £3,950 at Smalț and includes the titanium implant, the abutment, the ceramic crown and first-year check-ups. The 3D CT diagnosis is £395. A bone graft (£750 per area) is added only if the bone is insufficient.

How many visits does an implant take?

Most patients need 4 or 5 visits over 3 to 6 months: the diagnosis, the implant placement, a check 7 to 10 days later, then the scan and fitting of the crown. If a bone graft is needed, the healing time is longer and the crown visits move accordingly.

Can another dentist do the follow-up?

Yes. You receive a written file with the CT scan, the implant system, size and batch number. Your dentist can use it for check-ups and for ordering compatible parts. The check-ups included in the price are done at the Marylebone clinic.

Does implant surgery hurt?

The implant is placed under local anaesthetic, so during the procedure you feel pressure and vibration. Mild pain and swelling are common for 2 to 3 days and are managed with the medicines the dentist recommends. Conscious sedation is available for anxious patients.

What if I do not have enough bone?

The CT scan shows the height and width of the bone. If it is not enough, a bone graft or a sinus lift is done before or during implant placement. The written plan lists the extra procedure, its price and how it changes the time before the crown is fitted.
